You can define notification escalations for services as well as for hosts. Notification escalations for services take the fault status of several hosts linked to that service into account (by selection of the corresponding host group). Notification escalations for hosts take the fault status of that host into account independent of the service that has caused the fault.

Leave the "Services" entry empty if you want to define a notification escalation for a host.

Select a single host from the selection box to be checked by the dependent service.

Select a host group from the selection box to be checked by the dependent service.
First NotificationDefine at what point the notification escalation shall be enabled. For example, If you enter "2" in the input box, the standard notification is sent once in the event of a fault. If the fault is not remedied so that the second notification is pending, the rule for notification escalation is enabled. The contact groups defined in the "Members" selection box of the "Contact groups" entry (see below) are notified.
Last Notification

Define at what point a further contact group (see below) shall be notified. Notification escalation for the specified contact group(s) is completed after the number of repetitions defined in this input box.

If you enter "0" in the input box or leave it empty, the contact groups specified in the host or service as well as the contact groups specified here (see below) are notified.

Contactgroups

Specify the contact groups to be notified.

By double-click in the "Nonmembers" selection box, add a contact group to the "Members" selection box or you can click on a contact group in the "Nonmembers" selection box then click the following button Image ModifiedImage Modified.

By double-click in the "Members" selection box, remove a contact group if you do not want to link the members to notification escalation or you can click on a contact group in the "Members" selection box then click the following buttonImage ModifiedImage Modified.
Interval (minutes)

The repetition interval for notification escalation in minutes.

Notice:

If you enter "0" in the input box or leave it empty, notification escalation is not repeated.

Only escalate in timeperiodOption to specify if notification escalation shall only apply for certain periods or always. 
Only escalate when in state

The fault status for which notification escalation shall apply.

For example, enable the "Down/critical" check box and disable all other check boxes to only enable notification escalation for critical fault status.
